Soo not thai.. Cries Mar 01, 2011

Categories : Thai

So basically the general feeling is that all the restaurants on this floor of JP cinema are not that up to par.. in any case we wanted to grab a quick lunch and the menu stand was full of delicious looking pictures so we decided to give this a try.

Ordered a shredded chicken noodles in broth, stir fried noodles, fried shrimp pancakes, satay pork and chicken, and a thai pomelo salad.

I guess the best dish out of all was the side order of satay. The meat was quite tender and the sauce, albeit oily, was quite flavorful. The chicken noodles in broth was a complete FAILURE. mad It was barely some shredded chicken slices, with broth that's completely tasteless, with a LAYER of golden oil floating atop. The broth contained a little bit of bean sprouts and some 梅菜 looking marinated vegetables (so not thai, they are the ones you see in HK style fish ball noodles..) The stir fried noodles dish had absolutely no 鑊氣 and super oily..

Service was not bad, but that doesn't make up for the poor food/environment at all. sad

Soo many courses, including roasted duck/jellyfish, broccoli with scallop and prawn, pig's trout with egg and ginger with thick vinegar sauce, steamed fish with hot oil an scallions and ginger, fried chicken, some weird soup with a strong chinese medicine smell, soup thick cut noodles with a strand of choi sum, fried sticky rice with preserved chinese sausages, sweet red bean soup and fruit platter.

Every course was promptly and nicely split into individual small plates. Overall it was pretty tasty although certain dishes were a little on the oily side or the sauce was a bit too thick.

Service was quite good, perhaps because we were in the VIP room?

Acceptable Just OK Feb 06, 2011

If not for the thin and crispy crust, it would have been a cry face, not an OK experience.sad

Overall I feel the place lacks variety, the price definitely does not justify the quality. There are many better alternatives around the area. However since it's Chinese new year and most places are still closed, I thought to myself, well this can't be that bad. shocked

Basically the menu has some pasta, pizza, salad and meat dishes, on top of the cheeses and wines. For lunch, pasta + soup or salad is 80 something. The pasta texture wasn't good, not al dente, not over boiled, but just.. sort of brittle. The sauce was too acidic and the portion was on the small side. The organic chicken and avocado salad was just pathetic. mad Rubbery chicken, which I literally had to spit back out coz it was un-chew-able, and two very thin slices of avocado, and over-dressed salad leaves.....mad

The only positive, if not just OK, dish was the Norwegian pizza. It was around 12", very thin and crispy, with capers and mozzarella and smoked salmon. However it was too salty so I basically ditched the salmon and just ate the pizza......

Service was only OK. They forgot our water. There's no bread basket to start off your meal or that comes with salad. One of the guy wanted to collect my plate even when I'm not finished..

The cappucino at the end of the meal was not bad. I guess unless everything in Tai Hang's closed next time, I just might come back purely coz of a lack of choice.........

Not bad for the area Smile Feb 05, 2011

Ordered a couple of dishes for dinner. 食神叉燒飯, dried oyster and mushroom congee, ginger and onion mixed noodles, choi sum in broth, and cheung fun 3 styles.

chopstick食神叉燒飯 is really good. I read a lot of reviews about this and it didn't disappoint. The rice is well cooked, nice and soft. THe BBQ pork is tender and juicy, and apparently, according to the menu, they didn't add any artificial coloring. WIth an egg cooked to your style it was a good dish.

chopstickDried oyster and mushroom congee - was OK. the dried oyster taste is quite strong. They had 4 pieces of big oysters in there with a few thin pieces of mushrooms. I would have preferred it the other way round.. lots of mushrooms and a lil bit of oysters. Oh well that's just my taste.

chopstickGinger and onion mixed noodles - the noodles are quite "bouncy" and chewy. It's premixed with some oil, and they provide you with some oyster sauce and some extra oil. Quite tasty.

chopstickChoi sum in broth. The broth is slighltly salty, the usual broth taste you get in congee/noodle places. The portion is definitely more generous than 正斗 down the street though! Quite a big bowl of veggie, unlike "jeng dou" where we paid $25 for just a few pieces of leaves =.=

chopstick腸粉 3 styles - shrimp, bbq pork and roasted duck. The rice noodle texture's not very good. Easy to fall apart. Also the roasted duck doesn't really go well with the rice noodle.. just a weird combo.

The service was not bad, at least not as bad as some other reviews claimed to be. We were seated upstairs, with a very fast female server who was slightly stressed out tongue and a young male server who was courteous albeit clueless tongue

Great semi buffet lunch Smile Feb 05, 2011

Came here for a semi lunch buffet and the view's amazing. Love the simple white table clothes and the clean and relaxed ambiance. High ceiling and and lots of light. Staff are very polite. smile

The appetizer buffet is quite nice. Not too much raw salad leaves to choose from, they are mainly marinated salad dishes. Their couscous is quite good, the mixed seafood salad's good too. Most other choices are well flavored. smile Wish there were more cheese selections and perhaps some crackers to go with.

One thing to note - the bread basket could be better. A bit stale and cold. sad

For main course I had the mushroom and thyme tagiatelle. Not bad but nothing spectacular.

The desserts are better than I expected! The cheesecake is not too sweet, the chocolate cake is denser than I imagined. The best was definitely the mini chocolate tart with the raspberry on top! Delicious!! smile

For the view, ambiance, service, selection and taste, one of the top choices for semi-buffet lunches around the area. smilechopstick
