Quite a good deal for lunch Smile Oct 10, 2010

There are plenty of choices of fillings for the noodles. There is also a range of spiciness that you can choose from. Overall quite impressed. The portions of each filling is of decent size, and the noodles are cooked just right with some bean sprouts, scallions, cilantro, and some preserved vegetables. $29 for one filling, $33 for two, $37 for three, and I think it was $41 for 4. A free soya milk comes with that's room temperature..

Overall not a bad spot for lunch and like other reviewers said it's less oily than "lam kee" smile

First time to this location of Al Dente. Overall I would say it’s a pretty good deal given that it’s on Staunton St. for dinner. Menu’s quite extensive many pastas, pizzas salads and meat dishes entrees. They are all of decent portion and good value for the price. Nothing spectacular but I would say it’s quite a good pick for a dinner spot in Soho if you don’t wanna break bank.
The spinach salad was of a generous portions of greens with some chopped walnuts, sun dried tomatoes, garlic confit with walnut vinaigrette dressing. The lamb chops main course has three chops well cooked with some mashed potatoes and greens on the side.smile
The service really depends on the staff. One male stale with glasses was very friendly and attentive whereas one lady with short hair and glasses (maybe the manager?) had this attitude that I was like wow.. seriously? First of all she kept asking whether we want wine, whether we are gonna order some drinks non stop. OK I understand that beverage usually has a higher profit margin compared to food for restaurants but don’t need to be so hard sell!! mad
Also, when I was ordering my salad, I wanted to exclude the cheese and have the dressing on the side. Simple requests. But apparently not to this lady. She crossed her eyebrows and said “ A bit complicated, yeah?!” I’m like HUH?? Can I not make any request in this restaurant at all? What kind of attitude is this?!?!huffy
Anyway I didn’t let that woman affect my mood and enjoyed my meal nonetheless.smile

OK for a casual lunch spot Just OK Oct 03, 2010

I understand that this place is more catered for oysters and dinners but I only ordered from their set lunch menus during weekend so I guess my review doesn't do the restaurant justice in terms of their full menu.

In any case, I was interested in some of their salads in their main menu but decided to go with their set lunches instead. Price ranges from 58 - 98 I believe which includes soup and coffee or tea. The soup is set and it was cream of something that day.. don't remember, nothing spectacular and I don't like cream based soup personally so I only had 2 sips.

Ordered the lamb chop with a side of potato wedges. You have a choice of rice, spaghetti or potato wedges with some veggies to go along with your main course. Other choices include ox tail, fish, pasta, etc. My lamb chop was a bit on the fatty side but cooked to medium nonetheless. Overall for the price it was decent. Their kitchen is somewhere else on the other street so it takes some time for them to bring the dishes over.

One improvement to be made will be to make sure all dishes for the table are ready, then serve them all together. Common mistake that a lot of restaurants make. My friend was almost done with her pasta even before my lamb chop arrived, so yeah, timing issues.

One thing I am impressed with this restaurant is their hot coffee. Aromatic and stands well on its own, tastes great black but also with some cream. So I had a great finish to my meal smile

Terrible! Cries Sep 30, 2010

Categories : Hong Kong Style | Fast Food

I just can't believe how terrible the quality of food is here. Usually Maxim's pretty good with their restaurants.. bakery, maxim's fast food, their chinese restaurants etc., but I am just so horrified by the quality of their food here!

It's no wonder that there are actually empty seats during lunch time! I mean, think about it, weekday lunch time in Central, it's impossible to get seats anywhere but there are plenty of seats here! Why? Coz everything's overpriced and the quality's terrible!huffy

The fried fish fillet was overly breaded and there was hardly any fish. The rice was too hard and dry and undercooked. They were also stingy in their portions. Just never coming back here again.. mad

Overall a great experience. Good location, atmosphere, food quality, but one thing ruined the "perfect" experience which was one of the staff's attitude huffy

Anyway atmosphere wise the seating is comfortable smile although the sofa chairs are a bit dirty near the corner? =S

Anyway the menu has some great choices. We had half a dozen of the chef's selections chopstick to share which was delicious and fresh lol

Two of us had the tasting menu and every dish is of appropriate portion. There are few main courses to choose from and the price range is about $300 - 350. Overall the tasting menu is a great value for money. I have to specially comment on the pasta. Simple but well executed. Well done! You can tell the chef prepares the food with heart so that's good smile

I had the appetizer grilled portobello mushroom which was delicious. Nice and hot with tomato sauce with well dressed salads on the side chopstick For the main I had the grilled king prawn with salad which was also delicious chopstick

The food overall was well done and I am definitely interested in going back to try other dishes.

The server towards the beginning of the meal was courteous and very knowledgable about the food. HOWEVER, there's another staff, I am assuming of lower rank, dressed in all black with thick black glasses frames, didn't speak a WORD. shocked I was appalled by his attitude. Even when he gave us our bill to sign he didn't even say "Thank you" and when we left he just stared at us didn't even say "good bye" What's wrong with him?? huffy

The dining experience would have been so great if not for this waiter's obnoxious attitude. madThe chef shows his sincerity with the food but the servers also account for a substantial part of a diner's experience. So a constructive criticism would be for them to make sure the training of their stuff is on par.
