The St. Valentine's Day is held on Tuesday this year. Since it’s not an official public holiday, we’re more willing to have the ‘pre-vday’ dinner in weekend than the exact day. We started planning since early Feb. I didn’t expect it would be such difficult. My ideal restaurants were either fully booked or only provided vday menu on the exact day (which means no ‘pre vday menu’). Finally, I came up with Agnès b. Unlike the others, Agnès b provided the celebrating menu ($1680+10% service charge for two persons) from February 6th to 14th. We decided to go on Sat evening.

Oh my… I was bewitched by its beautiful decoration of the entrance when we arrived the Agnès b. le pain grillé. Embracing by the shining plants on both sides, Agnès b brings out the strong Parisian romantic atmosphere; it reminds me the avenue des Champs-Élysées (The most beautiful avenue in Paris).

We settled in a nice corner with the view of the HK skyline. We first received our ‘welcome cocktails’ before the dinner started. The cocktail was mixed up by Gin, Mint and Milk. My partner said it tasted fine but I didn’t really fancy it, simply I dislike milk mixed with gin… it’s Vday celebration, I was hoping the ‘welcome cocktails’ would be somewhat like cosmopolitan, rose wine, sparkling champagne, etc. A bit disappointed at this point indeed.

The appetizerz arrived, actually both of them adopted similar ingredients but presented differentiatedly. I chose this one for mine, they twisted the salmon marinated into rose shape, served with red beetroot, crab meat, blinis, dill sour cream. Tasted pale but looked so delicate. The other one is the salmon & crab meat tartlet with capsicum & lemon, which seasoned with lobster mayonnaise. Well, simply like the tartlet tasted fabulous and nice decoration with flower on a side.

Following dishes were about smoked duck breast & duck foie gras. The one terrine on warm green lentil salad looked absolutely adorable with its heart shape. The poached salted duck breast marinated stuffed with foie gras were served with four spice, tasted differently according to different layers, nice!

Afterwards the turn of seafood flavors~ Poached lobster & scallop salad served with tomato, cucumber, baby leek & spring onion in lemon vinaigrette tasted absolutely refreshing! Lobster meat was very juicy! The grilled lobster & scallop with lemon braised fennel, comfit lemon, spring onion & sweet chili tasted better, simply like its sweet and sour flavors at the same time!

The main course of meat steak with truffle came accordingly. The beef wellington with truffle, served with parsnip gratin looked nice! Not over cooked while soft in the ‘heart’, thumb up! The roasted capon roulade with truffle, served with crisp potato millefeuille & celeriac mousseline tasted so-so. Not really impressive and I didn’t really enjoy the crisp potato millefeuille.

The dessert was the soul of the night! I was so looking forward to trying the signature Coeur de champagne (cake of champagne) from Agnès b. The jelly top was made by Taittinger champagne, tasted fragrantly sweet. The body was made by champagne mousse, white peach mousse and vanilla sponge cake. The sponge cake with champagne moose tasted soft and smooth. It was placed on a plate with the decorating chocolate words ‘Happy Anniversary’ and served with mixed berries. The chef also used strawberry jam to draw a heart shape on the plate! I was like ‘Wow’ when I first saw the dessert. Very beautiful and touching! I would never forget this taste of L.O.V.E.

Well, if you want to go for a romantic dinner, it’s one of the choices you can think about within the IFC area. Simply adore its Parisian design and atmosphere. Especially the corridor in front of the entrance, you must not miss it.

Apart from it, I appreciate the nice and thoughtful service from the staffs here. Very professional and friendly.

It was a great night! Nice dinner, nice service by friendly staffs, entertaining performance by the Russian musicians, well environment by nice decoration (Halloween theme) and the signature -20C ice room in this house made the night!

I especially like the Russian ornaments in gzhel style placed in the restaurant. Gzhel, a brand of Russian ceramics, painted with the distinctive blue and white pottery. It reminded me the old Tang dynasty also produced something similar, which is fabulously artistic.

The Russian musicians dressed up in traditional Russian costumes. When they started playing the Russian folk music, it created such lovely Russian countryside atmosphere, the Russian night began:

We started the appetizer with a big platter of mixed combination. From left to right, we had the Smoked Salmon Roll with Red Caviar and Cream, Cold Pork Jelly in Russian Style and Smoked Duck Breast with the Cranberry Sauce. The whole dish looked presentable and rich in ingredients. I especially like the cold pork Jelly, tasted special and savory in its texture.

Following the Ox-tail Borstch, which is one of the famous dishes here that highly recommended by my friend: “this is a must try item if you once visit here”. No doubt, very rich and strong taste of ox, plus the sweet taste of Beetroot and Tomato ( yumyum). I like it!

We had ordered some stuffed bread to taste with. When the bread came, I was surprised by how delicious they were! Warm and soft while the ingredients inside tasted lovely!

Then the main dishes arrived accordingly, the Siberian Dumplings with the mixture of Pork and Beef. They’re way too meaty but still fine, sweet and juicy.

The spaghetti with wild mushroom in cream sauce came after it. It’s very strong in cheese taste! I like it that the texture of spaghetti is smooth and thin. Very nice!

The last main dish arrived and it was huge! The Chef performed how he open-field fired the sirloin steaks on a vertical rotating spit in front of us, which was very exciting and interesting! It also showed us how fresh it was! After it, the Chef sliced the meats off a rotating vertical spit and put them on a big plate presentably. Within the same platter, there were a delicious spring chicken, baby pork ribs and grilled Sole Fillet with seasonal veggies. It’s a big dish combined beef, pork, chicken and fish, which satisfied all wants in once.

After we’ve done all the above, we moved to the ice room and enjoyed the shots of vodka, I simply love having to wear the furry coats in the -20C ice room. It made me felt like tasting the local vodka in real Russia, which’s awesome!

I think it’s quite fantastic to have such theme restaurant creating dining area, while serving an isolated area for creating another mood of drinking. It’s not common to have such restaurant in HK and I wish more of such kind of thematic restaurants will happen to come and boost up our tourism. Indeed, it really attracts people to visit more often.

I especially wanna say thank you to a staff, who helped us to bring our wheelchair walked up to the upper floor. (since this restaurant is located on the 2nd floor and it doesn’t serve any lifts, people can only walk the stairs) It’s totally out of his duties but he made it, which was really impressive and nice of him, thank you. I see the friendly atmosphere and helpful service of the staffs here, which many local restaurants do not have.

The style of Crabtree’s Tearoom is exactly the same as its products: elegant and sophisticated.

If the weather is not too hot, it’s highly recommended to reserve a table outside the tearoom, which is a nicely designed bird’s net.

Before the foods arrived, I was already impressed by the set of equipments, which is our beloved floral print, very strong English style.

The flower tea wasn’t really strong in taste but smell really good! The high tea set finally arrived. Wow! The pastries are quite big in size! I especially like the fruits tarts, not too sweet and just right in taste. The chocolate desserts were fine, rich in its coco taste! The overall environment and the high tea set matched well together, it’s another kind of appreciation of art. It’s lovely to spend a warm afternoon with a brunch of ladies here, no rush, just relaxing!

Seeing so many comments here that giving many positive sights of this restaurant, I couldn’t miss my chance to come over and give a try.

Oh, a petit tip for the food bloggers: it’s recommended to choose a table on the upper floor instead of the ground floor. You’d simply enjoy and.be attracted by this enormous sea view. Anyway, back to the topic of “food”, we ordered Fettucinui Carbonara and Roasted Spring Chicken. Indeed it took a bit long for us waiting.(maybe I was hungry?) I had been drinking couple glasses of drinks to ‘kill time’. The Fettucinui arrived firstly. Personally I think it’s quite a huge dish. The taste of cheese is absolutely rich and strong. I could say I was kinda ‘full’ after eating a bit (the chicken wasn’t arrived yet!!!)

Then the Spring Chicken arrived respectively. Wow it looks huge to me (the dish I mean). I always love eating grilled/ roasted stuffs, so as this one. It’s so juicy inside. Sadly it’s a bit reddish inside, but overall it’s acceptable.

I heart juicy roasted chicken

I would recommend this place for people who like to enjoy a lovely sunny afternoon with friends/family/love etc. What more can people ask for a better sea view and nice dinning environment than this? This is the choice

This is a restaurant combined the elements of “Français” and “Chinois”. Principally, its colors of design based on pearly white with ‘petit’ black. It looks plain in ‘heart’ but sophisticated in styling. My first impression when walked in the restaurant was like returning back to Paris…

Anyway, the night we went for a fusion cuisine, which combined Japanese, Sichuan, Shanghainese, Chaozhou etc foods together.

The first mouth-watering dish was the sashimi Toro, they were cut into very little pieces though, they were very thick in shape that toothsome for ‘biting’ (They taste really fresh and mushy).
very fresh

Following dishes were Marinated Chicken, Steamed Fish with Lemon, Fried sauced shrimps, Braised Varieties in Chaozhou styles, Shanghainese Siu Long Bao, Dumplings in pork with veggies etc. Overall, they taste ordinary and easy to be accepted. A very mixed cultural dining experience .

I enjoyed the dining environment, nice eastern foods combined with relaxing western music (they were playing French Jazz at that night), which match well with its restaurant name “Franco-Chinois“.
