Pricey poor quality seafood Cries Feb 08, 2012

Since a while I haven't been to Sai Kung for eating seafood, the other night I had decided to come over for seafood craving with my family.

we randomly bumped into this restaurant since this is the one we could get seats easily and our car was parked nearby.

We ordered several kinds of seafood and requested mainly by steam & stir-fry methods for cooking them.

I'm not gonna describe them dish by dish, generally I think the taste of each dish is way too 'salty' and too strong taste that covered the original taste of seafood. Especially the steamed fish, it was horribly salty and we had to keep drinking water to purify our taste bud....

well, you can tell by the look from each dish, that it isn't that special nor good looking kind, while taste is also not special at all...

however, it's very pricey when we took the bill. Together with the additional fee for cooking, it costed $16XX huffy

if we had done some research before we visited here, it would be better...

next time I would def. not coming to visit again (sniff)

we bumped into this restaurant randomly. Since it's closed to the pier and we were just seeking for a open area to sit in, as a result, we chose here. Sampan serves a nice view of the sea, especially during sunset, the view was awesome!

we had ordered something casual and fast:

1. Garoupa cutlet with perserved pickle in sweet & sour sauce ($75+10%);
apparently frozen seafood, just reheat them with some onions and sweet & sour sauce. I couldn't really taste the fish at all, I only felt like tasting the flour...

2. Prawns in sweet and sour sauce ($98+10%);
this is the fair dish out of the rest... a bit pricey for such small portion though...

3. Sea Whelks with chili in liquor ("seasonal price" $100+10%);
the sauce is very strong and tasty as expected! once again, very small portion dish...

4. Fried Clams with black bean & green pepper(small) ($68+10%)
this is a very salty dish... I couldn't taste the fresh taste of clams at all... the strong sauce had alread covered all...

after dining, I went to the female washroom of this restaurant. I happened to see it didn't serve any tissues inside, so I walked out and asked for the waitress if they got some. The first lady rejected me and said no. I didn't give up, I walked to another waitress to ask for tissue. How would it be possible if this restaurant doesn't serve any tissues at all? (even I'm willing to pay). The second lady was helpful to get me some for FREE. Well, from this story I just wanted to say how heartless the staff here could be. If you demanded something here, you had to ask for twice! What kind of service is that?

lastly, when we had our bill, I saw they 'mistakenly' charged $11 more. I questioned them and they appologized. We had a 'correct' bill afterwards...

except it serves a nice view of the sea, I dun happen to see anything very impressing me here... sigh

if I had better planning and did better researches, I would have to go for other nicer restaurants than this...

Nowadays people are always talking about ‘recalling’ our past, ‘revisiting’ our history and ‘treasuring’ our heritage. ‘Loyal Dining’ emphasizes the revisiting of the colonial era of HK during 60s &70s. When we walked in this restaurant and settled down at the upper floor, we totally felt the ‘east meets west’ atmosphere by its decoration and design. You could find numerous of photos which were taken in 60s & 70s recording the ‘memories’ of the colonial HK, which is very precious!

Waiters here are friendly and talkative.

The menu of ‘Loyal Dining’ looks impressive. It’s very stylish that it looks like and feels like Ipad.
Under the strong recommendation, we had chosen two ‘sizzling’ sets: the ‘Loyal signature dish’ 66 Beef Wellington ($198+10%) and the racks of lamb ($178+10%). Both of them served with red soup & bread, potato & ‘seasonal’ veggies in gravy sauce, set drink and dessert.
Nice design.
Nice design.

The set drinks and red soups arrived firstly. It seemed a bit weird for me, since I normally have my set drink at the end of the meal instead of the beginning. It seems like it’s rushing you out to finish your meal a.s.a.p.!

Then the ‘sizzling’ sets came. They were served on the Teppanyaki iron platters. I have to say that they looked a bit disappointing! When the waiter sprinkled the gravy sauce on the iron platter, it was not ‘sizzling’ at all. You know, when you have an iron platter dish, it’s supposed to see the effect of the gas flame and the juice/ sauce should be heating on the iron platter! Besides, I ordered the medium cooked lambs but it looked totally or even over cooked! So disappointing! The signature 66 Wellington beef had the same issue!
‘signature dish’ here, wht do u think?

I think it’s a bit over priced for its foods in Loyal Dining. It’s just the Canton café quality of food, why does it claim as our HK’s heritage and representing the colonial era of 60s & 70s of HK?

Inflation  Cries May 13, 2011

Nowadays the inflation of food is really getting serious!.
I’ve been to the Ten Thousands Buddha Monastery Vegetarian Centre for Buddha’s Day and I was shocking to see the price increased to $60 per dish (it’s talking about 1-2 years ago, $50@), but the quality of food and the proportion of food remain unchanged!!!

We ordered:
1/ Stir-fry cashew nuts with diced mixed vegetables
2/ Deep fried vegetarian chicken with sweet and sour sauce
3/ Braised tofu in Soy Sauce with Black mushroom

The deep fried ‘veggie chicken’ was totally over-cooked that the texture was horrible… very hard and dry… it’s a bit worthless to pay $60 for this dish which is just made of corn flour and not delicious at all..

However, the dish of tofu with mushroom was incredibly nice. Very juicy and the sauce for the dish can mix well with a bowl of rice. Hopefully if I come over next time, I should hv remember to order this one, very safe choice…

The dish of nuts with veggie was alrite, another safe choice that can mix well with rice~

Although we only visit this place once per year, I still want to indicate that the price doesn’t worth $60 at all… sad

a place for u to go for pricey noodles..
a place for u to go for pricey noodles..

We must hv to admit that it serves really quick and efficient. But to be honest, its price doesn’t match with its proportion and quality of food… if you try once there, you’d know why… I don’t mean to say that the food tastes bad, but it doesn’t deserve for such pricey value… ummm..

I suggest they’d add more additional ingredients with the noodles, otherwise…
