OK but too rushed.... Just OK Jan 07, 2012

Categories : Japanese | Hot Pot

I've walked by this restaurant so many times but have never had the patience to wait, the line is always so long and there's not much to see in the shopping arcade while you wait. So we booked at lunchtime for dinner and the first open slot was 8pm (on a Fri night).

We got there 10 mins early but still had to wait until 8:15pm till we sat down. The waiter told us we had 90 mins for the buffet dinner and OF COURSE the time started when we sat down, but we had no pot and no food.

We chose the shabu shabu clear broth and it came fairly quickly but was not hot and we had to wait a while till it heated up. The thing that sort of pissed me off was that all the lowest price meat items ($118) on the menu was conveniently OUT OF STOCK. So all the meat items had to be ordered in the next price range. I didn't mind, I was going to order the $148 beef anyway, but why would they advertise a low price and when you get there, it's not available Isn't this called false advertising

As soon as the soup came, so did the beef and pork. Honestly, the beef is quite good for this price, very tender and juicy. The pork was good also, but really fatty so we didn't order a second round. There is an array of vegetables, a lot of different kind of mushrooms, green veggies like lettuce, leeks, sai yeung choi and green peppers. There is tofu, vermicelli noodles, egg noodles, udon and rice noodles. Also included were a lot of chinese hot pot items like cocktail sausages, chicken weiners, pork and fish balls, and a variation of those fish ball items. I was very impressed with the spread but the best part for me was the sauces. I don't like the traditional soy sauce and opted for the sesame sauce and another bowl of the sour sauce. I was in heaven.

Last but not least, they have a Haagen Daz mini bar with 4 flavors. Last night they had cookies in cream (MY FAVORITE), mango, butterscotch and strawberry. Yum Yum Yum!!!! Even if you don't eat anything else, sit and eat ice cream, you get your money's worth!!! tongue

When we were almost finished our meal, the waiter came up to us and said, "You've only got 15 mins, please pay the bill" and dropped of the bill and left. I thought that was quite rude considering that they no one even asked us if we wanted to order any drinks or even fill up our water glasses. I don't like the feeling of being rushed out the door so I'm not sure if I would come again just for this reason..........

Categories : Japanese | Sushi Bar | Sushi/Sashimi

This is the first time that I passed by this place and there was no line up. I don't know if it was because it was only 9 degrees outside last night or because it was almost 9pm. I've never had dinner here so I though I would try it.

I went in and sat at the sushi bar and there was already a cup of tea there. I don't know how long it had been sitting there and if it was left over from the person sitting in my seat prior to my arrival. I asked the waitress for a new cup of tea and she didn't look to happy.

They had some specials going on and I ordered 9 pieces of sushi that were on special. The sushi came and didn't seem very fresh but hey, what do you expect for $13/piece

There was no service from the time I sat down till the time I asked for the bill, no one even to come re-fill my tea. The best part of my dinner was probably the ginger, it was cold, fresh and very vinegary.

All in all I would say that it's not a great place but if you're craving for sushi and you just want to dine and dash, you could try. At least I didn't get sick the whole night right I, on the other hand, don't think I would come again.

Servers are incompetent Cries Sep 23, 2011

Categories : Thai

There's a really pretty Thai actress in town and she's been here 2 weeks without Thai food so I thought it would be nice to go for some Thai for lunch. Made a reservation in the morning so there was no wait for our table. The place was packed today, good thing thought ahead of time.

They have a new lunch menu which I thought was very exciting. You can order 3 items + a rice for your lunch. They had quite a few items to choose from which is very nice. I chose:

Red curry with lychee and pineapple
Gai lan with salted fish
Egg and tofu salad
Jasmine rice

The curry had too much coconut milk in it and the duck was rock hard. Although the lychee and pineapple tasted pretty good in the curry, the curry wasn't hot, it was warm.

The gai lan and salted fish had no flavor and I don't think I even had one piece of the fish in my bowl

The egg and tofu salad was ok, not bad but no flavor as well.

My friend wasn't so lucky, she ordered and they kept bringing her the wrong food. They brought her plate, it was totally the wrong food and they took her plate back to change it. They brought it over again and it was still wrong, they finally brought her the right order after 3 tries, not good. Getting a server was also a nightmare, not enough servers and too many customers. Very bad service.

Categories : Japanese | Ramen

Everywhere was packed today for lunch so we decided so have ramen, hoping it wouldn't take too long. We waited in line for about 10 mins and got a table for 2 by the window.

I ordered the ramen with corn, 12 dumplings, the spicy ramen and a pepsi.

My ramen wasn't hot when it arrived, it was lukewarm, which is a very bad sign. How can you serve lukewarm soup??? The ramen wasn't cooked all the way through because the soup wasn't hot enough. The dumplings weren't very good either, the skin was mushy and the bottom wasn't crispy. I could also taste the MSG in the soup.......

The food quality around this area seems to be dropping and at this rate, I won't have any good places to go for lunch pretty soon!!!!

I've been wanting to try this place out for a long time and maybe it's my bad luck, but every time I call, it's full. I was very excited when I called and they had a table available for us. When I got there, no need to wait, there were quite a few tables available.

We ordered a salad, some sushi and some rolls.

The food here wasn't bad and the prices were quite reasonable. The only thing that I didn't like was the staff is a little bit pushy about their "daily specials", which meant the more expensive fish that is flown in the same day.
