Comfort Food  Just OK Aug 05, 2011

Nice and sunny afternoon so I decided to take a stroll down to Delany's for some lunch. It's been a while since I've been here, but it's always the same good ole neighborhood pub. I really like it there, minus the incompetent staff. They're all in their own little worlds, milling about talking to each other but never paying attention to the customers.

The reason why I come even though the service sucks is because the food here is good and flavorful. I ordered one of my favorites which is sausages and champs which is:

The sausages were a little bit too crispy today, but the mashed potatoes were made just the way i like it, very fluffy with the odd lumps for texture. Baked beans and gravy to go the mashed potatoes lol

No a/c  Cries Aug 05, 2011

We went there yesterday for a quick bite to eat, hadn't been here for a very long time and now I remember why. It was a sweltering 32C yesterday and after walking around outside, I hoped to go into a nice air conditioned restaurant for some food. As soon as we sat down, i wanted to leave, but that would be too rude. The a/c was on 25C I guess, but it just wasn't enough.

We ordered a raw beef pho, shrimp salad, tiger prawn summer roll and spring rolls for 2 people. The shrimp salad was really good, very good combination taste of the sweet and salty fish sauce with some small chilies. The spring rolls are a bit small, we're used to the big fat Vietnamese rolls from Vancouver tongue The summer rolls were OK, but I was missing the peanut paste that usually comes with the rolls, instead they brought over a sweet and sour paste. The summer rolls came at the very end of the meal, just like a dessert, weird huh?? It just took toooooooooooo long to get here.

My friend just texted me and said he's been sick since last night and asked me how I was feeling. Thank God I didn't eat the beef pho, I probably would have been in the toilet all night too!!!!!

All in all, it was OK for me but NOT for my friend.

Don't think I'll go back again.

Friday Brunch Smile Aug 01, 2011

Categories : Western | Western Restaurant

Waited for 10 mins on a Friday, should have made a reservation, it's totally my fault tongue Went with a girlfriend for a quick bite at the Wanchai location which in only minutes from either of our offices. We both order 3 eggs and sides, see below

The Flying Pan is always a good choice for either breakfast, brunch, lunch or even late lunch. In my opinion, it's the best place to go for your hangover meal. Service is always a nightmare there, the staff ignore you if they are doing something else and sometimes even forgets to bring you what you ordered. The only complaint I have is that the juice sizes are super small, need to order another juice or coffee chaser to complete the meal.

Best Sashimi in Town!!!!!! Smile Aug 01, 2011

Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi | Group Dining | Special Occasion Dining

Having been open for over ten years, Ajijiman has still kept up their standards and still serve the best Japanese food in town!!!!!

My mom was here for holidays and I decided to take her here for a nice Japanese dinner. She wasn't disappointed as the food was fresh, staff was friendly and very good atmosphere except for the kids at the next table, but that is an ENTIRELY different story.

Now on to the food: We ordered some sashimi and it came on a platter with oysters, salmon belly, botan ebi, hamachi, toro, mirugai and aji. It was very fresh you could taste the sweetness of the shrimp and oysters. The fish was so fat and the portions were very generous. We only ordered a few pieces of sushi, chopped scallop, negitoro and something else that came on a plate by itself, I can't remember the name in English but in Chinese it's Semi-grilled "Joor How Yu" sushi (translation = left mouth fish) After all the cold food I needed something to warm my stomach so we asked the kitchen to prepare a prawn miso with the heads of the botan ebi we had in our sashimi platter. Very deep in flavor and very good for texture with the prawn head and tofu, very "homey" soup.Feeling quite full after the soup, we opted for some robata. My favorite here is the beef tongue, I know it sounds gross but you MUST TRY it. It's cut to the perfect size so every piece is still very juicy and seasoned perfectly. The other snack we ordered was chicken gristle, it's a funny kind of texture and quite nice. Good with some cold sake and edamame on a quiet get together with some friends. All in all, VERY happy with our dinner and the staff was very nice and polite. Will definitely come again soon!!!!

Best Oysters in Town Just OK Aug 01, 2011

Categories : Western | Western Restaurant | Seafood

Needed to make an early reservation for this place because it's ALWAYS FULL!!!! This is one of my favorite haunts as I've been a fan of this place since it used be in Happy Valley. It's open until late (2am) and the staff are very friendly and there's always someone ready to help you with your order.

My friend came in from Singapore and was craving oysters so of course we HAD come HERE!!! The oysters were super fresh and tasty!!! My favorite are the Kumomoto ones, small and sweet. My friend had some Coffin Bay, Irish Cream and something else....hmmm, forgot, sorry.

Next we has some conch and scampi which were really fresh, but the conch had no taste, you need to dip it into the wasabi/cocktail/vinigarette sauce to get some flavor

I figure that every meal needs veggies so we ordered a salad. The Ceasar is so good because the dressing they use is a little bit more tangy than most other restaurants and it leaves a good kick in your mouth after all the seafood. You know a restaurant is good when their croutons are fresh and crunchy, which is kind of funny because croutons are actually made from stale bread!!!!

The next dish is my ultimate favorite: Crabmeat dip with garlic toast!!!!! It's delicioso but was definitely paying the next day on the treadmill for another HOUR!!!! It is such a rich and creamy dip that you can't help but keep eating more!!!! One portion of garlic toast for the dip is just right, one piece less, you think, hmmmmmm maybe we should order more?? If you order more bread with no dip, then the cycle starts to order more dip and you could sit there for hours with the bread, dip and white wine.

The last dish we ordered were the mussels in cream sauce. Luckily the cream sauce is very light, you could almost drink it. The mussels were big and fat and a very, very healthy portion.

We washed all this food down with 3 bottles of white wine and had a very leisurely dinner, just chatting and catching up on girl gossip. The place was full until about 1030 and people started going home, but there were others that came in for the late supper crowd so it was constantly busy.
