I had a very enjoyable dinner at the drawing room in Mid Nov.
This was my first time to visit. The tables were too close, the food was a bit dissapointing, but the excellence of service of one of the Managers (I believe so - he was wearing grey suits) complemented it. And they got an impressive wine list to choose from!

We had the 4 course menu for each of us, plus a bottle of white wine recommended by the restaurant within our desirable price range and we were too full to finish the petit four in the end!

Before I move on to the food, I would really want to say a BIG THANK YOU to that Manager/ waiter who served us that night.
He, together with the rest of the crew in the restaurant was very considerate and had strong attention to details, :

#1: I told the restaurant that we would be celebrating my friend's birthday while I made the booking. However, on the day, I completely forgot to inform the restaurant which one of us was the "main character" of the night! When we had our second/ third course, I got an unfamiliar number calling my mobile, I picked up and the other end of the phone said gently "Hi, we are calling from the restaurant that you are dining at the moment, can you please tell us which one on the table is the birthday girl tonight (followed by very secretive instructions so that i could let them know who was the birthday girl without any of my friends noticing)"

This is very kind and I am impressed. Thanks for saving me the embarrasament while my friend could happily have her name written on her dessert plate with a candle! Also a polaroid picture! smile

#2: We were not prepared to splash out on wines. And the sommelier politely recommended some nice wines which we could choose from the very extensive wine list. He did it in a much nicer/ polite way than the sommelier in Mandarin Grill!

#3: The restaurant was full on the evening that I went. But as soon as all of us arrived, when we looked around and before we even tried to raise our hands to request for menus/ wine lists, the grey-suit manager already brought them along. lol

Moving on to food, thank you for the very detailed explanation.

The bread was warm. I love the onion bread!! but would be much better if we can get a wider variety of olive oil/ balmasic to choose from.

Starter: I had "Pan Fried Quail and Foie Gras with Hazelnut and Cherry Sauce" - The Quails tastes excellent!
Quail with Foie Gras

Pasta Course: Homemade Tagliolini with Lobster and Confit Tomatoes - this tagliolini is homemade and is very chewy, lobster meat very tender and fresh.

Main Course: Braised Wagyu Beef Cheek with Ox Tongue, Smoked Potato Cream and Porcini Mushrooms -
The Beef cheek was quite disappointing. I did not like the sauce. The Ox Tongue is better.

Dessert: I forgot what i ordered, just remember that I picked it from the 5-course menu instead. tongue

Coffee/ Tea: Surprise surprise, the Manager would bring a big box and introduced one by one to you!
the best Manager!

This is the superb grey-suit staff that I have been talking about!

Finally, ending our dinner with petit four (again, a wide variety to choose from):

I hope they will improve the food quality and I will definitely come back!

for starter,

very very average...

drinks, 只係叫左個panna + 1 glass of house wine + juice...

埋單around $300 per person...
li 個價錢...
食回憶既味道 = 抵!
係中環have a decent dinner = 抵!
但係 $300 以portuguese standard 食葡萄牙家常小菜就貴左d....tongue
因為葡萄牙食飯真係好平!!!

Had long been warned by friends that Zuma was just the expensive version of Roka, and Zuma Hong Kong is overpriced.
I never tried Roka in Hong Kong, only had it several times in central London as it was so close to my old home there!

One of my very good friends came back for good in Hong Kong, and she was very interested in trying Zuma despite all the bad things we had heard about this restaurant. so we decided to give it a shot. tongue

Table was booked on a busy Friday night. When we arrived there by 8, the bar area was already so packed & we were led downstairs to the restaurant area. Similar to all restaurants serving comtemporary Jap cuisine, the decor was clean and neat, with a big open kitchen in the middle.

When we were waiting for another friend to come, we realised that 90%+ of the people dining there were whitesshocked shocked shocked

Waiters were in general polite but sometimes difficult to reach as they were always running between tables.

And talking about the food....

Starters: We ordered Spinach ($60) & Hamachi Maki roll ($80) to share.
Fatty Hamachi
Fatty Hamachi

This Maki roll is good!! The Hamachi is very fatty. When we had our last bite of each maki, a smell of herbs filled our taste buds - very special! and I really like this
Just okay..
Just okay..

The spinach w/ sesame is very average. Nothing special.

Main Course: grilled scallops ($95 each scallop), tiger prawn ($180), grilled spring chicken ($195), australian beef ($320)
GREAT!!!
GREAT!!!

1) The Australian beef is the BESTTTTT course we had at Zuma. Even we didn't opt for the Wagyu, the pinkish beef is still so tender!!
The sauce was sort of sweet but we really liked it! Matched the beef well!

2) We also had the tiger prawn which the waiter recommended, but the portion was so small!! The texture / taste wasn't exceptional

3) Grilled Scallops - we had one scallop each and the portion was tiny, we literally finished it with one bite. No "wow" factor - doesn't like the seasoning & the scallops aren't really fresh.

4) Grilled Spring Chicken - okay, tasted like those you can find in traditional Chinese restaurants, but we were too full to finish it.

Drinks: 2 Bellinis, 1 Amai Koi, 2 Plum Sour
The 2 Bellinis were actually quite good, very fruity & sweet, suitable for ladies.
Didn't try the rest, but beverage prices are on the expensive side (expected in such restaurants though)

It is really like Roka in London - can't compare the prices cuz 2 cities are of different standard of livings
Though I don't think I will recommend Zuma to friends - i still prefer traditional Jap cusine tongue

Recommended Dish(es):  Spicy Australian Beef,Kiwi Bellini,Zuma Bellini

Spending per head: Approximately HKD600

I was trying to get a special last-minute birthday cake for my friend! tongue
As we drove around Kowloon City & searched on openrice - we found this little gem!
This boutique cake shop is well decorated and very neat and clean..
Once I spotted this grapefruit cake sitting in the glassed cabinets and I know I had found the cake...

I haven't tried any kinds of grapefruit cakes before...

This cake tastes so good!! A strong scent of grapefruit with every bite of it
there is even a layer of real grapefruit in the cake

I would definitely try other flavours next time!
Fresh Grapefruit cake!

Had the set lunch with pairing wines with my friend.
The food was much worse than i had expected, way below the level of other Michelin-starred French restaurants in Hong Kong
Petrus @ Island Shangri-la did a better job in terms of food / service / ambience, though it is ranked lower by the Michelin guide this year....
The Oyster I had was the best course amongst all, despite its greenish weird presentation.
The mains were the worst.. i dont think it's worth the price at all..
just okay...
