Exceptional Taiwanese Milk Tea Smile Sep 20, 2010

Bang Bang Tong (Wuhu Street)

So far I am still very fond of Taiwanese Bubble Tea… even though nowadays the numbers of shops opened can almost catch up with the number of 7-elevens ~~~~mad

I had tried many brands, Gongcha, ShareTea etc but the most I like is Bang Bang Tong. I remembered I had one commentary on this Shop before, but since they had so many different types of drinks and new products every now and then, I couldn’t resist trying and giving comments and recommendations for you guys to try them out~

And guess which two drinks I chose to mention here:
1.Three Brothers Milk Tea (>3<)
2.Taro Milk Tea with Pearl

Three Brothers (Milk Tea) – This is original Milk Tea with three different yet perfect chewing textures, made out of Black Pearls, homemade Grass Jelly plus Black Sugar QQ Jelly. This combo is just the thing! The black sugar brings out a special scent of the tea, and the tea overall gives a fabulous taste and chewing feel. lol

Taro Milk Tea with Pearl – This is another drink I would like to recommend. It is a taro flavored milk tea, and is truly Taro Milk Tea because you can taste a fair hint of taro AND tea base. Unlike other brands, I couldn’t taste any tea when they claimed it Taro Milk Tea, it’s more like Taro Milk Shake in my opinion. Again since Bang Bang Tong used ‘Mega Size’ Boa Bar pearls, it really gives a satisfying sensation to your taste bud. I would rate it an A++

Notes to readers: Taro Smoothies (ie Taro and Milk ONLY) is also available there.

Looking forward to try more of their new products~

A nice place to dine in Just OK Jul 30, 2010

sadThis time I am would like to write about Rice Paper, a modern Vietnamese Cuisine established a few years ago by Maxims Group. It is a pleasant nice environment overall, and I would say it is a comfortable place for friends gathering and chatting up.

I dined in there with one of my other friends, and had ordered a Paper roll with Deep Fried Crab and Avocado as a starter, and then the traditionall Raw Beef Noodles and Crab Meat Tomato Soup Noodles.

The Paper Roll was delicious especially when it was served with some specially made sour tangy sauce (tasted alittle like mandarin sauce). However it was the Raw Beef noodles that was a little disappointing…. Because the soup was not hot enough at all… the beef was still raw after a few minutes of soaking.. (like those in the pictures), the temperature of the soup was kinda between cool to warm, which didn’t taste good at all. We had to order addition hot beef soup base of course, and the staff there were helpful though. They did gave us a huge bowl of beef soup to mix into the noodles, which was satisfying.

Then we were served with the Tomato Crab Soup Noodle, which I thought add up the points to the overall rating. The tomato crab soup was very thick and tasted rich too, with adequate crab meat and crab roe mixed in there… delicious!

Overall, I would rate this restaurant a 6.5 given its service and fair dishes. I would still go there as a place for friends gathering, after all it has such a good atmosphere for a decent dinner with some good old friends.

Fresh Oysters at To Kwa Wan Just OK May 23, 2010

Oyster Station Snack & Oyster Bar

Sometimes I will suddenly have an appetite to eat Fresh Oyster, and this restaurant, Oyster Bar situated at To Kwa Wan (Sky Tower) had always caught my attention because the decoration is very modern and sharp. And this day my friends and I decided to go for it~ mad

The shop has very limited indoor seats due to the shop size, however the outdoor seats made it even more unique, and has the style of the restaurants in western countries.

We were arranged to be seated in the outdoor table, and were served with some starter -celery/carrots/cucumber stick with ranch while we are reading the menu.

We ordered half a dozen of Fresh Oysters to start off with, it tasted very fresh especially served with sauce and lemon slice. Then we tried a plate of sea urchin (pictures below), hm, sizes were relatively smaller than I expected, and tasted just okay, nothing surprising shocked. Then comes the hot food, we ordered skewers platters which included grilled eels, chicken soft bones, and pork neck. We were also served with two glasses of free white wines, not a bad combo!

We enjoyed the dinner overall because of the (outdoor) environment and the fair food being served. However the only little disappointment is that, upon paying the bill, we were charged $38 for the fresh celery/carrots without being told while serving to us (I really thought it was free like those served in higher-end restaurant) hm... a little rip of IMO~!

Aussie Cheese Fries @ OUTBACK

I reckon a dinner on Saturday Night should be fulfilling, and having a nice environment to enjoy. After a shopping battle at Causeway, I decided to have Steak and chips with my galfriend, and we have chosen OUTBACK at JP Plaza.
When we got in, no one came up to us for seating arrangement.. until we waited for about 5 minutes..shocked
Now we are seated, we noted almost every table ordered the Aussie Cheese Fries and without a doubt I had to order and try it out~ I also ordered a Prime rib, which I could choose veggies/baked potatoes/colesaw as side dishes.
Before all the entrees and main course, we were served with some dark rye bread with butter. I haven't had dark rye bread for a long time and this one is impressive, it is alittle sweet and very soft, delicious and greatly increase my appetite.smile
Next were the Aussie cheese fries looking real great, full of melted cheese and bacon bits, (see pics) Yum. The only thing is, the fries are alittle too salty in my opinion. Maybe that's the way to make us order some drinks??? mad In fact, I really have to order a drink to go with the chips.... Here I had the Iced Lemon Tea, with unlimited refill, GOOD!
The Steak comes not long after the drink, it is little over done as I ordered it to be medium rare, but overally the taste is ok not bad, just alittle rough on the texture.
This night I spent about $500 on the meal, which is reasonable considering two people sharing all these dishes.

'Original' Taiwanese Pearl Tea Smile Apr 08, 2010

BANG BANG~!

Just realised more and more Taiwanese drinks shops were opened. All these shops have different gimmicks and specialties, and this one, called Bang Bang Tong, specialises not only in Taiwanese Drink, but also German Hotdog and BBQs skewers.

So I decided first to try their Original Milk Tea and Hotdog Meal, in which I had chosen Cheddar Cheese out of the three toppings (Butter Fried Onions, Cheddar Cheese and/or Sauerkrat). The staff reminded me that the Hotdog would take about 5-10 minutes to prepare since all hotdogs are freshly cooked upon order. But I think it does worth the wait.... because the hotdog is just ~awesome~! The bratwurst, ie the sausage is sooo meaty, with the melted cheddar cheese on top, this is just perfect combo, the mustard plus the mayonnaise...smile almost in heaven~~

As for the Milk Tea, I really like the pearls, their size are MEGA (>o<) and very chewable, maybe that's how they come up with the name 'Boa Bar' ..... the milk tea taste very much like those I drank back in Taiwan, no wonder my friend who came from Taiwan recommended Bang Bang Tong to me.

Some more points to note, there are so many different kind of drinks available tooooo, like Mint Mocha, Taro Smoothies etc.. so I guess I surely will come back to try other stuff out~

Stay tuned.
