I love coming here for lunch, especially for their steamed rice buckets! Not only do you get a LOT of juicy, succulent, fall off the bone spareribs, but you also get a plump, meaty chicken foot to boot!

I don't usually let myself eat this much rice... but the rice is really soft, moist, tasty, hot, and just all around delicious. This is definitely my go-to place when I wanna be baaad! (So worth it!)

PS. Go early for lunch because they usually sell out of these steamed rice buckets FAST!

Sunny Thai is a family run, friendly Thai restaurant in Tai Kok Tsui (near Olympic MTR station and Mong Kok neighborhood). They have amazing set dinners with great Thai food, including Tom Yum Gong soup, Fried Morning Glory, Hainan Chicken, Fried Prawn Cakes, Boneless Pork Leg and more.

The dish I always get is the Hainan chicken, because it's BONELESS and the most tender Hainan chicken I've ever had in HK. It's perfectly cooked, tasty and comes with a side of veggies/rice. Usually, I skip the rice and go for veggies only (perfect no-carb meal), and it's super filling with their assortment of kale, baby corn, broccoli, carrots, and mushrooms.

On a cheat day, I like to get the Tom Yum soup rice noodle with a piece of Hainan chicken thrown in. It's absolutely sinful!!

The people who run the place are super accommodating, friendly and kind. They always give us a bowl of free dessert at the end of our meals, usually taro sago or green bean soup.

Please try out the Hainan chicken here if you haven't already. VERY recommended!!

It's always a nice experiencing dining at the World Peace Cafe. That is, if you've made a reservation! The place is usually packed everyday at lunch, and all the tables have been reserved ahead of time. So remember, call ahead or you'll be disappointed!

The place is vegetarian and run by Buddhist volunteers, who are more or less pleasant when serving you. At lunchtime, they have a set menu where you can choose to either have a 3 course meal (appy, main, coffee/tea) or just the main with a smoothie, and well there are other options too which are a little more pricey, like if you want dessert too.

The food is healthy and delicious, and not too heavy. When I was there last time, I had the mushroom curry with brown rice. As you can see from the picture, it's very colourful, fresh, and yummy! I loved the carrots, not too hard, not too soft, just right!

I usually have the almond cappuccino to end my meal, try it when you're there next time! Oh, and the Golden Planet smoothie is also really good (mango)...

Hoping to try something new, I had dinner here last night only knowing that the place supposedly had good chicken.

We ordered the 2-person set meal for $138, which included a plate of their signature chicken, 2 other dishes that we chose, and 2 bowls of rice.

The menus were in Chinese only, and we ordered "Cashew Meat Ding" (note: it was not chicken, but pork), and a claypot dish with spareribs and "Gai Choi" which is a large leafy green vegetable.

VERDICT:

The chicken is actually quite yummy, and the meat is tender and tasty.

The cashew dish was bland with a lot of celery + pale pork, which was not what we expected at all (of course we wanted spicy cashew chicken) ...

When the claypot arrived with the "Gai Choi" we were shocked to see that it looked almost identical to the first dish we ordered(!). What's worse is they put TWO pieces of gai choi and then filled the rest of the pot with sour (preserved) vegetables, and we got the same bland pieces of pork.

As I was dissatisfied, the waitress let me change the order to something a bit less risky, so I chose the Eggplant in Claypot. This was pretty good I have to say.

All in all, I wouldn't come back...

I'm really sad to have to write this because I used to love Paul's Kitchen and their cosy dinner sets. However, I'd really like to share my latest dining experience there and I'll try to be as neutral as possible.

I had been to Paul's Kitchen 2x before, and had the 3 course dinner set with Salmon and Roast Baby Chicken. Both times, the food was quite good, nicely cooked and yummy, and as everyone already said, the potatoes were great! The best part is ending the meal with a hot and sweet crispy Apple Crumble with ice cream, which I absolutely loved both times previously.

Last night I decided to share this delightful restaurant with my friends and had a private birthday dinner in the VIP room of Paul's Wine Bar (a few doors down). Here's the summary:

FOOD:
-7 people ordered the Signature Roast Chicken, all except 1 were UNDERCOOKED (raw and pink meat)
-Paul did apologize, blaming it on an oven problem, but this sort of thing should never happen in a restaurant(!) If it was a hair in my soup, fine, but raw chicken is a severe NO-NO as you can get people seriously ill!
-the other 3 people got Pork / Lamb as their main course and were quite pleased
-desserts were sub-par, the Apple Crumble was not hot at all and the crumble was dry and cold, nothing like before!

SERVICE:
-our party of 10 only had 1 server, who maybe came to help us once every 20 mins and was nowhere to be seen when we needed him
-as a result, our glasses were empty most of the night and we had to wait around 20 mins between courses
-overall service was slow and the night dragged because of this

I have to say that I was VERY disappointed with Paul's Kitchen this time around. After hyping it to all my friends, I was embarrassed that they all had such a bad time and still had to pay over $300 each for their horrible meals.

Paul did not give us anything for free to compensate for the raw chicken, but just a 10% discount on the chicken only, which I think was quite unreasonable for nearly giving all of us food poisoning.

OVERALL:
-Paul's Kitchen is good to try, as you might be lucky and everything should taste fine
-I recommend going there on a date or in a small group, maybe max of 4 people, otherwise they cannot serve you properly in a timely fashion
-The VIP room in the Wine Bar is cosy and nice, but no one is there to serve you, so expect to wait a long time to just order some drinks
-When ordering the chicken, maybe ask them to make sure it's cooked thoroughly!

This was a pleasant surprise! Tucked away on Gough street, we had a great time eating here and the service was excellent.

In our group, we tried the:

Linguine with Clams
The linguine is in a fish broth and quite firm to chew. Tasty but not too tasty. The clams though are HUGE and you can be assured that you aren't just getting empty shells. In fact, all of them had a big clam meat inside!

Linguine with Mushroom and Spanish Ham
No complaints!

Linguine with Japanese Mushroom and Uni
My friend said the uni actually worked well with the dish!

*note* Although the linguine dishes were good, they were not really authentic Italian. I mean, the pasta did not taste freshly made, even though they were supposed to be, and it just didn't have the rich flavors of Italian cuisine.

Warm chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream
This was soo yummy!! The chocolate cake was warm, as advertised, and the insides just flowed out when we cut it open... Delicious and recommended!!

Overall, I highly recommend this place, especially for its wonderful atmosphere. They even have a terrace outside for sunny/dry days. It's really an oasis from the hustle and bustle of HK!

This has got to be the worst place to have CHAR SIU or any other kind of roast meat in Hong Kong. Trust me, I've tried it around 3x now (yes I'm forgiving) but each time I've never been more disappointed!

First of all, their CHAR SIU is the strangest consistency. Whereas most char siu is succulent, juicy, soft and fatty, this place gives you slices of hard, tough, purpley-red meat. It's difficult to bite through and all those meaty fibres go straight in between your teeth, impossible to pick out with your post-meal toothpicks.

Second, the CHICKEN is a disgrace as well. Not only do they by default ALWAYS give you the wing (all bone, hardly any meat, those cheap bastards), when you ask for breast meat, it's even tougher than the char siu! Tastes like a dead dead bird. Not good.

Avoid this place at all cost!

This place is located in a pretty busy area of TST, but once you get in, it's quite peaceful. We sat 'outside' with a view of the Kowloon Mosque, which made us feel like we weren't in HK anymore

The decor is quite simple. Although there are some couches inside, they aren't the most cushiony, so be careful when you plop down, cuz it's gonna HURT!

We had a mini-pizza w/ mushrooms and a fusilli carbonara. Not bad, quite tasty!

My honey green tea was a bit too sugary though and the star-shaped nata de coco pieces were a little too small to enjoy chewing on. We also ordered a Coke but when it came it was entirely flat (no bubbles). The lady was nice to give us a new one though!

They also have free wifi which is great plus a lot of magazines (all in Chinese though).

All-in-all, this upstairs cafe is just OK! Nothing mind-blowing.

This cake shop is basically a window shop where there's no where to sit or even stand inside, almost. Just go in, order your cakes and get out!

The decor is very clean and almost clinical, since it is white and bare (except for the cakes).

Anyway, onto the mud cake:

-dense, thick and chewy
-thick layer of chocolate on top

Overall, it was okay. It definitely didn't have the richness of a proper chocolate cake, but if you like something heavy, this cake might be for you. I'm not sure what kind of chocolate they used but if you prefer real chocolate (ie. Belgian) then don't waste your time on this mud cake.

This place is supposed to be a very traditional 'tea restaurant' in Hong Kong and it definitely looks like it. At the door, there is a toothless man and angry old lady taking orders, while the crowd outside stands in line for a spot or order egg tarts and their signature iceless milk tea to-go.

I've not tried eating there yet, but tried an egg tart and their milk tea. The verdict?

Egg tart - tasteless, lukewarm, flakey, too much crust, nothing special.

Milk tea - AMAZING! So smooth, doesn't dry out your tongue, not too sweet, pre-chilled, easy to take away in a plastic cup, very, very good!! You gotta try it!!
