The view from Sorriso
The view from Sorriso

I don't like the clumsy design of iSquare, as one would easily get lost in this maze of elevators, but indeed there are many nice restaurants housed in this building, such as this one which I am going to introduce --- Sorriso.

Location

It's located on the 29th floor on a 31-storey building. There is another Chinese restaurant locating on the same level but shares a different view. Sorriso has a better view from Causeway bay on the island side all the way to the ICC on the right. Today luckily there is nice weather. My dining mate told me her experience in a restaurant in ICC. She said the location was really too high that "dwarf" the everything, but the height of iSquare is just right to see the lines of buildings and peak behind them. The simple design of the restaurant also goes very well with the scene outside whilst not down-grading the classy interior as a fine dining place.

Food

The menu offers buffet first course and dessert, and a chosen dish of main course ranging from soup, pizza, Italian pasta, Italian rice, beef to pork.

Buffet Appetizer

Appetizer includes fresh salad which is really nice and having a wide choice of salad dressing. Cold dishes such as salmon and cold cut are offered. I especially love the marinated cherry tomatoes.

Main Course

I have ordered TUNA WITH OLIVE PASTE. The tuna was a bit overcooked and appeared to be too dry. The bed of artichoke and chorizo is very good but the chorizo seemed not strong enough to alleviate the taste of the tuna. Giving it a sauce would also be a good match. Hope it will improve next time.

My friend has chosen fried pork which she think it's rare to find restaurant offering pork on the menu. The comment was overall positive, yet again too dry. The waiter was very smart that he brought us a small plate of thousand island sauce to go with the pork. Points added for the attentive service!!

Dessert

Dessert was nice. Creme brulee was up to expectation. Mango mousse and chocolate mousse were very nice too. Fresh fruit was offered as well.

Service

Very attentive service. We found the napkins were folded and placed on the table neatly every time when we returned to the table after taking food from the buffet table. All requests were handled promptly. Big applause!!

Conclusion

Nice food at reasonable price with spectacular harbour view. Excellent services. Recommended with no reservation!!

R66 has been famous among Lonely Planet readers, which has become as must-go dining place in one's Hong Kong trip. Just a few months after the closing of R66, the place has been renovated into a new Spanish restaurant View 62 by Paco Roncero, hosted by Paco Roncero, the student of Adria Ferran of El Bulli. Located on the 62nd floor of Hopewell centre which was once the highest commercial centre in Hong Kong, View 62 offers dining a unique experience above the clouds overseeing a magnificent panoramic view of Hong Kong while the revolving restaurant moves a round every hour.

Paco Roncero have not claimed his food style to be cuisine moleculaire but nouvelle Spanish gastronomy which surprises each of your taste bud. Even the Spanish friend of mine was surprised by how the chef transform some traditional homey dishes into something unconventional yet still keeping the traditional taste. My friend especially fancies the Russian Salad. A homey dish that every Spanish mother would know how to prepare. The chef has made a twist and put on top a foamy cheese sauce. The taste is so well matched to spread them on a piece of crunchy toast.

I have chosen Lobster Soup with Artichoke and Potato. I could not imagine how artichoke can go on well with lobster soup, but this dish really knock me out. The taste of lobster stretching out to every taste bud, while the potato balls and artichoke has given a balance. Love it~

Before the main dishes comes an interlude of one tapa, Cod Bud. My friend loves these traditional taste of croquettes and the sauce that comes with it, Alioli which is garlic mayonnaise sauce.

I have order a steak with muchroom and potato mash while my friend has chosen his favourite Iberian pork chop with carrot sauce. This dish is highly recommended. The pork itself is rich and aromatic the carrot sauce is just like the midas' touch. The taste is surprisingly harmonic.

Dessert will always be the full-stop for a delighting meal, but the dessert we have today seems a bit not up to our expectation. So ordinary. No magic. Hope this will improve later.

Supplementary Information:
The dining environment is spectacular and romantic, well fit for special days and couple. This restaurant is still under trial operation and so there is still room to improve. Very attentive service. Definitely would come back later to try out the dinner.
