As a recommendation by a friend, I had lunch at this Oolaa restaurant last Friday, inside the restaurant it is nicely decorated and is quite big , they also have a small outdoor area though I will not suggest you to sit simply because the restaurant is facing the dispose collection.

Anyway 4 of us had their special set lunch at HKD108 which includes Soup of the day or a buffet Salad (one visit of course), a main course and dessert, to add HKD20 more for coffee or tea.

Their servers are recruited internationally, Caucasian, local Chinese, and South east Asian, and I bet the latter need improvement on their service skill.

When we asked the first Asian girl about the soup of the day, she told us it was a Soup of Carrot and Coriander, so I asked again whether the soup was a clear or a thick creme/puree base soup, she told me that it was a clear soup, and at the end it came a carrot puree soup.
proper bread came with the soup surprised!

After we placed our order, 2 of my friends went for the salad, by the time they returned back and found out bread was not offered, we then asked another asian girl about the bread, she told us there's no bread for the lunch, it's only available for dinner, then one of us asked again if there's actually any bread available at the restaurant, and she just simply said yes but not even bother to tell us we could order a bread basket as side order until my friend asked could we pay for the bread basket. At last the bread basket came and to our surprised it's a toast basket which came with butter and preserves.......oh well since we're half way through our appetizers we just took the 'Toast Basket' anyway.
here comes the Toast Basket

For the food the presentation and taste were actually nice, however once again was a bit disappointed with the way they serve...
when the 3rd asian girl came to our table with our food, though we were chatting, she just kept on shouting 'Chicken' 'Chicken' once I answered she place my dish but with the greens in front of me, then she shouted again, 'Fish' 'Fish'....ok...I know I was having a special set lunch and didn't order any wine or special drinks, however the setting of the restaurant even their staff uniform did give me an impression of a higher service level in stead of the local HK cafe.......

Because of the service I actually didn't really enjoy themeal, all I knew was the food taste not bad, and one note to those who want to try this restaurant remember no to have the table facing the street there's where you can see the Dispose Collection Area clearly.

Hope in the future if I ever have a chance to this place again, it will be more enjoyable...

I think the very last ime I visited Nam Ah is their TST branch about11 years ago.

This Friday night, since we didn't make any reservation, and didn't want to have food at the Time Square food court, my friend and I decided to walk around Leighton Road and eventually picked Nam Ah

After browsing the menu for sometimes I decided to have the Malayan set while my friend wanted to try some western name dishes.

For the western dishes he picked the

Onion Soup with cheese - once the soup same we were a bit shock shocked cos it looks like a creme of tomato soup with a bit of onion with a layer of baked cheese, and my friend said it really tastes like a creme of tomato soup

Beef Stroganoff with rice - another surprise shockedactually it again looks an ordinary beef in tomato sauce, no taste of creme nor milk nor butter and mustard and the veggie has not be refined

Frankly the taste of both dishes were ok even better than lots of 'Char Chan Teng' out there, but it's just not western enough....

On the other hand the Malayan set though not perfect was good in terms of Asian cusine though there is area for improvement....?( the restaurant was here even before I was born..... oh well)

Beef Asam - Beef Stock with the asam spice (turmeric a common ingredient for Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesian soup dishes) add up with tomato, pineapple and the taste is a bit too sweet, maybe they used the syrup from the canned pineapple...shocked

Prawn in Satay sauce, a stir-fried dish the prawn was crispy outside and the meat tender, the peanut flavour from the sauce was just right..smile

Chicken Satay they are quite generous of the Chicken skewer smile

Malaysian Beef Brisket Curry on Rice, the taste was just right, not too spicy/hot but have the exotic flavour.smile

It was a special evening, a group of old school mates gather around for for the first time after left the school for 25 years....time passes really fast. And eventually one of them suggested Gingko House because of their famous service from the senior staff...

The place was actually cozy, we set on the ground floor, the staff were actually very professional , courteous, and I love their can do spirit very much, one of us had problem with his oyster salad, other than finding excuses like other restaurant, they changed the dish not only once but twice without any queries and apologetic at the end even offer to replace with another dish, it is the attitude that we all appreciates and respects, kudos to all of them.smile On the other hand I just wonder, when will the young ones out there will show their passions and own respects to their Professions!

Anyway back to the food the place does offer a French/Fusion cuisine and a wide range of wine and beverages at a very reasonable price, and last but not least the Tips for the Charity Purpose..!smile

Quite a proper table setting for dinner, Veggie dip was offered complimentary, water was being refilled automatically throughout the dinner. and we totally ordered 5 dinner sets

House special Focaccia Bread served warm, a nice piece of bread slight crusty on the outside and soft inside, though the flavour is weak.

Clam Chowder quite creamy in taste, but not much ingredients can be found in the soup.
Vegetable Soup, I didn't try it , it looks like an ordinary Russian Bortch Soup you can have all over HKG
Onion Soup with Cheese I had was tend to be slightly sour...

Salad of the day Tuna and egg with greens, the mixture of the tuna and egg tend to be a bit blend.

Rack of lamb, Steak, Pasta.. my school mates seemed enjoying them very much except the one having the pan fried sea bass said he's a bit disappointed

I had their signature dish Goldlucious something something...
留金歲月 rye rice with gold flake in a pumpkin, grilled Chix with pumpkin sauce it's such a filling dish if you finish all the rice with the whole pumpkin I wish there were more sauce or sauce on the side....

The food they offer though not spectacular, I think is quite decent regarding the taste, the presentation and the portion of course the service passion from their staff can make up a lot....and it is nice to give it a try..

My Gourmet Burger raves continue...

this time at the GBU, on their big menu on the wall you can either choose their special recipe burger, or you can have your own preference... we choose the first one....

Truffle Burger, with tiny traces of truffle sad

GBU Big Boy burger, New Zealand beef, bacon, mushroom,Camembert cheese rocket,
other than too much cheese used and made the burger over salted, the burger actually tl flavour is full and good once you have removed the extra cheese...

Fries Poutine ....wah more cheese than what I usually have at New York Fries

Chilli, very spicy, and the texture is really thick..

The food is actually acceptable but with the price I think I have more options to choose frorm.....

Haven't been to Tiffin for over 2 years and went to have a Buffet Dinner on the 30SEP to celebrate the National Day becos it's full on the 01OCT

It was a quiet evening we arrived at 8pm and were seated by the widow which I think the glasses should be cleaned more thoroughly. Our table was very near to the working station and the servers frequently bumped onto the outer couch and forced me to move to the inner one. other than that the quality service and a silver ware dining from a 5 star hotel is quite consistence which is blessed.

Anyway back to the food, I just like their fine selections from appetizer table you will find assorted seafood, smoked salmon, goose liver pate/truffles.....salads
at the craving station, you will see the roast prime rib, pan fired foie gras , all kinds of hot savouries last but not least, the wide selection of desserts cake, pastires, sweet soup, ice-cream, crepe/waffles

quality and quantity of the food are good, they kept on replacing with the new ones from the kitchen.

The piano quartet playing easy listening pieces throughout and the sound was not intruding but comfortable...

Such a nice evening there at Tiffin
