After my first visit to this Cafe today, I tend to believe this Cafe was completely overrated. My colleagues and I had set lunch there. The price of the set was between $128 and $148 (before 10% service charge) with appetizer/dessert, main course and drink. It's not inexpensive for a lunch but if the food was good and the sevice was of quality, we were fine with the price. Attached was the menu. Four of us ordered Penang Char Koay Teow. Four of us ordered Penang Char Koay Teow. When they delivered the order to our table, the waitress specified that our dishes had no shrimp. We were perplexed and told her right away that we did not request to take out the shrimp. Her immediate response was so rude that you would not expect it from even a normal-price restaurant, let alone a Cafe that came with recommendation. She insisted she delivered exactly what we ordered but with a tone of accusing us of making up the claims. We were all stunned by her rude response and poor service. We then spoke to the guy who took our order. We told him that we did not ask to take out the shrimp from our dishes and this guy (who looked to be in charge) told us right away that there was no shrimp in this course. We thought it was just a mix-up from the waitress and believed what he said. One of our colleagues arrived late and ordered the same course as ours. When her dish arrived, we found that there were shrimps in her dish. We then realized that the guy who took our order lied right to our face (with his eyes wide open). We were speechless since we did not at all expect a Cafe who charged premium price could provide such horribe service.
What decent honest people would do was admitting their mistake and arranging to at least add back the food. Instead, they lied...we did not care about the mix-up of order but being lied to like that was unacceptable. Can't believe they treated customer that way...
One top of their poor service, the food was mostly unimpressive. The more we ate, the more we got disappointed. It's not that their food tasted bad but their quality really did not justify the price, not to mention the ridiculous service. As to the drink and the dessert, they were nearly as commonplace as the main course. Don't go there unless it is your last resort.
The only consolation is I know this was my first and only visit to this Cafe.
What a lunch.
