It was a happy occasion as a group of colleagues and I went to have a team lunch at Cafe Malacca, it was our first time to dine there and were all looking forward to some authentic Singaporean / Malay cuisine. At the entrance, we were warmly welcomed by the staff and ushered into the dining area. It was quite spacious and we were seated near the "stalls" where some chefs were preparing some dishes. However as we chose a-la-carte so we didn't need to checkout those "stalls". Satay I love satay

I love satay, and find Indonesian chicken satay most flavourful, I was pleasantly surprised how succulent and flavourful the chicken satay was at Cafe Malacca. We ended up ordering a total of 4 plates of chicken and beef satays! Gado Gado
Again this dish I've tried in Indonesian restaurants and wasn't sure if it's an Indonesian dish or SG / Malay, anyway I really liked the sauce which was light and went well with the crunchy crackers and salad. The mixture of friend bean curd and eggs worked well too Fried eggplant with curry leaves
I had no expectations for this dish and for a minute I thought that was Fried Carrot Cake - but nope, it was crispy eggplant fried with a light batter and it was hard to stop myself from eating too much of this. Quite addictive! Beef rendang
This was the most popular dish, we ordered 2 servings and the presentation doesn't do it justice . Maybe a flower / veggie to spice up the dish would be nice. This dish went well with the rice: Hainanese Chicken Rice
Loved the presentation of this dish and generally it was okay, however the chicken could be better as it was rather bland. There was a sauce on the chicken which we hadn't tried before. The rice was actually tasty and quite edible Bak Kut Teh
The pork ribs were surprisingly tender, but it could be improved with a thicker soup. Nasi Lemak
This dish was presented really well, and our Singapore specialist in the group generally liked it but thought the chili could be spicier (maybe to cater for the HK audience?) with larger portion of meat.
Not pictured - Assam Laksa and Prawn Mee – Pretty good and would definitely order this again.
