We visited The Delhi Club for dinner and were given some good food and some forgettable food.

To get to the restaurant, you need to wait in line for the elevator for a while, so don't go if you are in a hurry.  The resaturant itself is a strangely blue-lit mess hall-style place.  After being directed to our shared table and presented with a menu, we made our choices.

We ordered two sweet lassis, malai kofta, paneer karai, a cheese naan and an onion kulcha.  The lassis came out and were OK.  They were lacking a good sour note and tasted more milky than yoghurty (perhaps bottled?).

Next came the malai kofta and the cheese naan.  The first thing to note is that the price of vegetable curries is 65 dollars - a huge mark-up from the menus posted on openrice (53 dollars).  The malai kofta was a joke.  Two small vegetarian kofta with no flavour at all.  The bowl of sweet korma-like sauce was also kind of bland and certainly not worth 65 dollars.  The cheese naan was also a bit bland.  It wasn't too bad, but it wasn't memorable either.  Kind of flacid really.

The second two items were MUCH better.  The paneer karai was delicious.  It had great depth of flavour and a perfect level of spice.  The ingredients were fresh and you could make out the individual elements as part of the whole dish.  The kulcha was superb.  It was chewy and crispy with onion throughout the bread.  It has to be one of the best breads I have had in a curry house.

The service was fine, a little impersonal, but the footfall through the place is high, so you can't judge them too much on that.   I think with better choices, we could have had a great meal, but as it stood, we had a mixed meal that had highs and lows.  It is definitely not the cheapest place, so really, every element should be of a high standard.  We would go again, but we would take lessons from our last visit.
