Since the Korean craze started again in Hong Kong a few years ago, a lot of Korean restaurants have opened around HK. Tsim Sha Tsui is a particularly population and has become the destination for Korean food.
I met up with a friend for a weekday lunch and she suggested a fast food called Hungry Korean, which serves mainly kimbap and other light meals. The location is a bit tricky though – if you’re coming in from Haiphong Road you have to walk through a kind of building to get to the other side of the road.
We arrived at around 1pm and the restaurant was still packed. Luckily the line up wasn’t too long.
I was particularly hungry that day and ordered a Bibimbap with Bulgolgi ($42)

-The portion is quite small for a bibimbap – there seemed to be more toppings than rice!
-The beef was well-marinated and not chewy
-I like the choice of veggies as well – carrots for some crunch, and spinach to add some freshness
-Since there was too little rice I barely got any crust at the bottom

My friend ordered a beef kimbap ($32) which was plated up nicely. Presentation points!

I only tried a piece but I thought it was good. They were actually able to include a good variety of ingredients into the roll. The ratio of rice and ingredients were also nice – just enough rice to hold everything together but not too much to make it taste bland

We weren’t full so we decided to order another Ddeokbokki ($32)

-I like how they kept it authentic and added fish cake slices.
-The rice cake was al dente and wasn’t overly soft
-The sauce is spicy and sweet, though I wouldn’t mind if it was a little bit more spicy

It’s a good place for a cheap Korean lunch, especially if you work nearby. However the portions are more snack-sized so you might have to order multiple items to fill yourself up..
