This is my fourth year going to Cafe kool on Boxing Day. What a disppointment! I don't know what happen this year but there were hardly anyone there. I think only 1/3 of the restaurant was fill up. Anyway, me and my family got the window seats so we were pretty happy. To start with, I went to get some oysters first. To be honest, they were very small and hardly anything to eat. I have to say that the seafood wasn't that fresh. The crab and shrimp were not so good. Their texture was so rough and they were tasteless. I have to add lots of sauce to eat them.
The sashimi bar was packed with lots of sushi. I got some salmon and octopus, they were quite fresh. The salmon was quite thick and meaty. The octopus was quite chewy. They also had a new sushi roll this year, it contains fried shrimp, mango and avocado. They were very tasty, the mango was sweet and the avocado was so smooth. The shrimp was so crunchy! I love the combination.
The lobster soup was so fishy but creamy...........there was no lobster inside.......
The thing that I am happy about was their salad bar. They had lots fo salad and dressing to choose from. After I put everything on the plate, the staff helped me to mix them up with the dressing. The ingredients were fresh and placed nicely in the bowl. There was also a staff cutting the parma ham, the parma ham was not that salty compare to the other that I tried before, they tasted quite nice with the melon.
I made my own laksa noodles; I added bean sprout, fish ball and bean curd. The soup was very creamy and tasty. The noodles were stretchy and easy to chew.
I also tried the tom yum kung soup, it was super spicy but I couldn't resist the taste so I kept drinking it. I was a bit disappointed because there was only one shrimp in the soup and nothing else. There was no other seafood at all.
The freshly made pasta tasted alright, I chose penne bolognese and it had a stong tomato flavour. I wish they give me more mince.
As for dessert, I got the molten chocolate cake. This was my favourite for the whole meal. After I cut it in half, the chocolate leaked out and it was sweet. The cake was spongy and soft.
To finish up, I had two scopes of vanilla ice-cream. They were smooth and creamy. I also added some chocolate chips and nuts to make it more chewy.
To be honest, I will not go there next year. For that amount of price, I expected a bit more quality food.
