I lived in New Jersey for seven years before moving here to Hong Kong. Jersey is great for mom-and-pop Italian places, and there were a handful in the area (Alfonso's in East Brunswick was my favorite) that I ate at all the time. But it was never quite what I wanted... it was a little bit too greasy, too cheesy, and too 'cheap' in a way.

Posto Pubblico, I think, is what I wanted. Here's what we had:

Arancini. You've probably never heard of this (I hadn't): it's a fried rice ball with a cheese and onion filling, served with a meaty tomato sauce. The outside is crisp and a little 'potato-y' almost, the inside is gooey, cheesy, and rice-y. I totally recommend this. A+

I was boring and just got the spaghetti pomodori-- spaghetti with tomato sauce. The pasta was al dente-- more al dente than I've ever had at a restaurant. I'm a big fan of toothsome noodles though, so I loved it. The sauce was thick and rich and sweet, without being greasy or overly sweet. Just what I wanted. A

My wife got Ravioli Calabrese, described as "oregano & ricotta ravioli, ‘nduja laced tomato sauce" on the menu. 'Nduja is some kind of spreadable sausage made from stuff you don't want to know about. She thought the sauce was great-- it had some perky, citrus-y notes to it. The ricotta in the ravioli was very creamy and soft. The ravioli was also extremely al dente-- too much so in my mind. B+

We ordered a bottle of Sangiovese, the Frescobaldi "Castiglioni" Chianti. I'm going to warn you against it. It was totally flat and overly sweet. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't even close to being good. C

This place ain't cheap like the mom-and-pop Italian places around every corner in New Jersey. But it's good eats. I am certainly coming back here. A
Other Info. : Reservations are highly recommended. Make sure to call early, too; the first time I tried to come here they were booked solid.
