I've tried Din Tai Fung many times in Hong Kong and other places across Asia and it is a reputable Shanghainese restaurant which a successful franchise. The renovation and service is impeccable and up to very high standards but I feel like the quality of food is slightly off with its reputation and price. If you would like to try this restaurant without waiting, you should arrive as early as 6pm, because anytime after that, the crowd builds up and it takes around 30 minutes to wai...

The first time trying out this restaurant and it disappoints me. The dumplings’ skin is so thin but I guess Shanghai traditional food wasn't like that. The taste was okay but the portion was too little and it is definitely not enough. The taste was good though.

Thanks to the typhoon the day before, we chose just the right day to go and enjoy no waiting time outside. Or maybe it is the decline in popularity? I took my family, visiting HK, and they loved the meals. We ordered 1500hkd worth of various dim sum for 5, including 3 xiao long bao.  I found them very dry (luckily tourists don't know how it is supposed to be), as well as the other dumplings.  We were charged tea for everyone but only got one little pot with no refill.  Despi...

din tai fung doesn't need any introduction.  it is a name synonymous with shui lung bao and noodles.  it is also a name appears first on the last resort list in eating out.  as diners run out of new ideas, din tai fung is a safe and hassle free place to be except the long wait.  my strategy is to go any day after 2130. the menu is simple and straight forward.  drunken chicken as the cold appetizer along with steamed dumpling as the hot starter, diners will find such high standard even...

We used to live in Hangzhou, about one hour south of Shanghai and we picked up a taste for xiaolongbao.  Shanghai is full of great little family owned places that do mind-bendingly great ones.  The first time we visited DTF was in Hangzhou and we thought that their XLB were pretty good, but not the best. Fastforward a year or so later to DTF in TST.  We arrived at about 6.20 and had a 15 minute wait.  When we left, people were waiting a whole lot longer.  The goo...

My friend came to visit HK so we went to Din Tai Fung for xiao lung bao because of the franchaise's fame. We arrived at 12 ish but only waited for 10 mins which is quite surprising. We ordered normal xiao lung bao, xiao lung bao with crabs, tofu with crabs and chicken soup. The skin is pretty good in terms of thickness however the stuffings just taste pure bland for whatever reason. Really dont think it's worth the price especially it's suppose to be their signiture dish. H...

Came by for lunch the other day. Was expecting a huge lunch rush right at 11:30 am; thus arrived at 10:45 am and was surprisingly the first in line! The hostess and the rest of the restaurant staff was ready to deal with the crowds with a good queuing system. They had each one of the waiters wait at the door for the hostess to bring each guest to their table. Started off with the signature xlb which was good. The skin was thin and the soup inside was plentiful. The meat inside w...

Din Tai Fung was not a new name when we decided to visit the restaurant located at Tsim Sha Tsui. Having tried it several times in Singapore when it first opened up years ago, I arrived at the restaurant expecting the same quality considering that it was awarded Michelin 1-star in Hong Kong and it was also ranked as the world's top 10 restaurants by the New York Times. The queue was comparable to the Din Tai Fung in Singapore. After receiving a queue ticket fr...

huffy Waiting time was long.... but well worth it. Everyone that come to HK, must try this place. But come prepared to wait in the queue. If you come at off-peak hours it is much better, otherwise the average waiting time is over 30 minutes. I like the pork bun very much, the pastry is not thick and the soup inside is just right. Also love the beef noodle soup, the soup base is perfect, it has a little spice but not too much. The fried pork cutlet on fried rice was good. Also th...
