Lately there's been a fad for local hongkong food and everyone's visiting all these cha chaan tengs for some authentic food - well if you really want to try some of the best local food, you've got to add sing heung yuen to your list! The tomato based soup noodles left me wanting for more and the iced milk tea was so good I literally had to have two! The toasted buns were not bad too although I wouldn't say they were the best; but another must try has got to be the buttered pinea...

Ever since I heard about this beef and tomato soup macaroni (茄牛通)place, 勝香園 Sing Heung Yuen, I have been wanting to try it. Thankfully I have a foodie friend Gracy from Just Gracy who knows how to take me there and what to order! As you can see with this place, this is closest to street food or the Hongkies call it "Dai pai dong" (as I would go anyway) in Hong Kong. There is no air con, you sit in these rickety backless chairs and water from nowhere may drip o...

Ahhh Sing Heung Yuen. It's so iconic it doesn't really need its own introduction. Heck, even Anthony Bourdain came here with "China Matt" and Craig Auyeung 歐陽應霽. But we are left with the impression that Tony didn't quite get this food or appreciate it, even as a megastar international traveler and eater of massive cholestrol, guts, glory, uni, and sushi. Let's put it this way, unless you have Hong Kong blood and polluted air flowing through your veins for ye...

It has been a long time since I last visited! Since I visited a similar place nearby recently, I thought it was time for me to make a visit to Sing Heung YuenmadEnvironment & Hygiene: If you have visited this place before, you would know not to expect anything in these 2 areas. The environment is definitely not comfy, and they put together your food with their barehands. Not a place for everybody.  Service: Obviously, one cannot expect any service as wel...

Sing Heung Yuen is famous for their tomato broths, but never ending queues just like the the noodle place opposite are expected. It is actually quite interesting that there are two famous joints opposite each other with equally long queues at the same time, so if you change your mind and decide to go to the one opposite you would have to queue all over again. But saying that, the two joints serve totally different things, SHY serves noodles and sandwiches and the place opposite ...

Came by for lunch the other day. Arrived ~11:15 am and the wait was ~15 minutes for a table. The restaurant is merely ~8 long tables in an outdoor setting with an awning. Tables need to be shared with others. The waitress was stern and confused with our large order. Upon arrival, the restaurant mixed up the order but insisted that they were right... The staff was rather obnoxious and rude. The iced milk tea was good, slightly on the sweeter side. The tomato beef chicken win...

I remember reading previous posts that mentioned that the service here is really good even though they have gotten so famous now. I definitely didn't see that on the day I was here. The ladies were yelling at customers for not responding quick enough or not knowing what they were doing. Didn't bother me much since I already know what I was going to order, but the atmosphere was different from what previous posters said. I came here on a Saturday afternoon so I expected to wait. Didn...

Haven’t been Sing Heung Yuen for age, as the weather goes better in autumn, so we would like to visit this small stall these few days. We came a bit late at the lunch hour to avoid the peak hour, there are not so many people at around 2pm and we finally got seats within 5 minutes. As I had a salad before, we just order a bowl of macaroni and one crispy bun to share. 番茄碎牛炒蛋鮮牛通 came first, the macaroni is small and easier for eating with the tomato . Although they simply use ...

I was headed for Kau Kee across the street, when I saw that there is no line in front of Sing Heung Yuen. And since it got so many positive reviews, I decided to give it a shot. I ordered the tomato soup with chicken wings. This was not bad but nothing worth waiting in line for. But not bad if you didn't have to wait in line. At only $22HKD you cannot complain too much. I may be biased against this as I make a kick-ass tomato soup, but I digress. The toasted bun with le...
